Law Societies & Associations


Cape Law Society

Ettienne Barnard is currently serving as a Vice-President of the Cape Law Society (CLS).  He is a member of the Magistrates' Court Committee and various other committees of the Law Society.  He is also a former Circle Chair. Sonja Labuschagne serves as the current Chair of the Coastal Winelands (Boland & Overberg) Circle (also sometimes referred to as Circle 2 of the CLS.)  She is also a member of the Magistrates' Court Committee. The CLS is created by legislation as the official regulator of the attorneys profession in the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape Provinces.  It's head office is in Cape Town. Law Society of South Africa

Ettienne represented the Cape Law Society on the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) as councillor for a number of years. He currently Co-Chairs the LSSA together with Max Boqwana. He has participated in contributing to the new Legal Practice Bill and the Uniform Rules for the various provincial Statutory Law Societies over South Africa.  You can read more about the LSSA here. The LSSA is a voluntary association joining attorneys in all the provinces of South Africa and is made up of representatives of the Black Lawyers ASsociation, National Democratic Lawers Association and the Statutory Law Societies, being the Law Societies of the Northern Provinces, the Free State, KwazuluNatal and the Cape. South African Attorneys Association

Our Attorneys are also members of the South African Attorneys Association (SAAA)It is a voluntary association for attorneys and candidate attorneys admitted to practice or do articles as Candidate attorneys in South Africa. You can read more about the SAAA here.
